Steam Laundry

Steam is the new feature in the appliance industry. You can even buy a steam wall oven(next post or so)

But what does steam actually do? After all, a by-product of heat is steam.

Steam assists in cleaning by blasting at tough stains. Another lesser known function is refreshing clothes without ironing.

There are two manufacturers actively producing steam laundry

LG: The first involved with steam. Great controls and capacity

Whirlpool/Maytag: Similar to the above, but Whirlpool has recently added steam to the dryer. Of the two, this pair would be my preference.

  1. Thank you for the information on steam laundry options.

If you would help explain the pros/cons for steam when you mention it that would be ideal. Also when I see your posts I always want to know the price of items highlighted. Cost comparison is often more valuable than style and bonus features. If you rather not list your price due to changing prices, please list retail suggested price - something so we can know if steam cost 2K over 1K non-steam or if it's just a few extra bucks, even cheaper.

Thanks for posting - big fan of the updates.

  2. Chilly,

It would be in the stores favor to publish prices, link back to our site or inform you of other store policies, but I have tried to keep this informational not promotional.

On the other hand, I did promise to answer questions, especially good ones. The cost on the LG set is about $2100, and the Whirlpool about $2400 before rebates...and steam will cost about $300-$700 more...

  3. My last comment is confusing....Steam will cost $300-700 more than a regular set...Do not add 300-700 on top of the prices(already included)
