EnergyStar Maytag

On March 1-March 30, 2009, this Maytag Epic machine will be $499 after $350 in rebates. This is not the long dead Neptune machine. Maytag laundry has been manufactured by Whirlpool for 3-4 years. As I have posted before in tough times, manufacturers will do almost anything to keep factories rolling.

This may be a good time to review the $100 difference this month between an EnergyStar Maytag front load versus a conventional top load.
Regular Estar
Water consumption Gallons 14,000 versus 5,009
Energy consumption kilowatt hours 374 versus 153
Spin RPMs 400 versus 1200
Capacity Cubic feet 2.6 versus 3.26

  1. I would love to hear more about the $100 difference that you mention in this post. Is that savings per year?

  2. Kate,

You are now paying about $100 more for an energystar washer over a convential top loader...The Estar uses 9000 less gallons and less than half the electricity and is 35-60% larger

PS: Spin is better and you lose much less detergent as well

    Steve,

What about the high efficiency conventional washers? Are they any better?

  4. Yes...a little better. The Cabrio still uses 330 KWH of energy, which is only slightly better than a regular unit. It uses 7,000 gallons of water..Better than a top load, but the front only uses 5000 on average

    Good question
