Deflation

I started full time in the appliance business in May of 1986 approximately 3 days after graduation....

Following is an interesting observation, which is a sign of the times.

Self Cleaning range in 1986 was sold for $599-649 depending on the features.

Self cleaning range in 2009....$389 in black and white($549 in stainless). So much for cost of living increases...

    I bet the quality was better even in '86 and lasted longer than the products we buy today. Part of what makes these products less expensive today is their cheapness.

  2. Hate to disappoint..but the opposite seems true..Appliances are more energy efficient and better quality than the class of 86

    Better manufacturers and increased competition are the reasons
