Shallow Depth Refrigerators Part 1

First of a three part series on shallow depth refrigerators. Shallow depth refrigerators have become the standard in upscale kitchens, because the chassis of the refrigerator does not protrude in the room. This leaves a more linear look in the kitchen.

Lets simplify the category and segment as well. Shallow depth refrigerators are available in three styles: Regular shallow depth, which is a basic refrigerator only shallow, professional or refrigerator with compressors on the top and integrated which is totally hidden. Lets review what I call regular shallow depth products in todays post.

The regular shallow is the least expensive and most popular of the three and is available in a side by side and French door. Brands available are Bosch, GE, LG, JennAir, KitchenAid, Viking, Dacor, Frigidaire and Electrolux

  1. Your photos show nothing about how shallow the refrigerator is. I'm looking for a refrigerator that is only 12" or so from front to back to facilitate access, i.e., so that nothing is ever in front of anything else, or, at the worst, things can be stacked two deep. I can use a smaller, conventional refrigerator for the big stuff. Of course, the shelves should be adjustable for height.

I am also looking for the same thing. I have a small kitche and on the wall where my refrigerator is I have cabinets the depth of the top cabinets ceiling to floor. I want my refrigerator to fit into that space without sticking into the room. I was told that someone made it but I cannot find it. If anyone finds one email me please at rbcarol@aol.com

How about giving some Specs, ie the. depth in good old inches so those of us who may be dimensionally challenged could compare your depth to the space we are working with.

  4. Mea culpa...A shallow depth refrigerator is 24 inches deep plus the door and handle, which should total about 28 inches deep

Regular(non shallow) depth refrigerators run 34 to 35 inches
